Rifles: Large Game Hunting

While hunting smaller cervids may be fun, ambitious hunters may wish to step it up a notch. For an added challenge, hunters can travel to big country and tundra locales to stalk bigger game such as Moose, Elk, or Caribou.

The massive size of these animals and the terrain they inhabit make them a greater challenge than your typical species of deer. Many shots may have to be taken at long range but the threat of a charging animal as well as other dangerous species that coexist in these more remote habitats means that some close range shooting isn’t out of the picture.

Many of the various rifles used for hunting smaller species of deer, black bear, or mountain lion can make effective kills if well aimed using larger grain bullets. However, for taking down the big game on the spot, the higher end of the spectrum will push up to .338 Winchester Magnum, or even higher.
